Ana Rito has a PhD in “Nutrition and Public Health” (FIOCRUZ/Brazil & Universidade Nova de Lisboa) a Master Degree in “Medical Sciences - Human Nutrition” (University of Sheffield/UK) and a Bachelor degree in “Food and Nutritional Sciences” at (FCNAUP, University Porto, Portugal, 1991). She also attended other courses such as “Methods and Application in Health Services Research” at Harvard School of Public Health (USA, 2008).
In 2006, Ana Rito began her collaboration with Direção Geral da Saúde within the former Platform Against Obesity, as Vice President of the Scientific Committee, where she also integrated several Portuguese delegations at the European Union and at international scientific meetings of the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2008 she became a Researcher at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA), undertaking 2 Post-Docs one of them being at the EU project EConDA- Economics of Chronic Diseases" led by the UK Health Forum. At INSA, she lead the process for its designation as WHO Collaborating Center on Nutrition and Childhood Obesity and has been, since 2007, the Principal Investigator for Portugal, of the study "Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative - WHO / Europe “ (COSI) and a member of its European Advisory Board.
As Director of the Research Center (non profit association) CEIDSS, Ana Rito has been developing national comprehensive Programs on tackling childhood obesity at municipality level, namely the awarded POZ, the ongoing Program MUN-SI (www.mun-si.com), AMEA (www.ameaprogram.com) and within the EU grant framework in representation of Portugal, in OPEN (http://openprogram.eu/) being now involved in a 5 year Horizon2020, with other 13 high level international institutions in CO-CREATE (www.ceidss.com/co-create/)
She was the Head of the Bachelor´s Degree in Nutrition Sciences (University Atlantica 2005-2014) and has collaborated as a Professor in other Universities at national and international level. She has vast experience in European Networks such as the “European Network on Reducing marketing pressure on children” and has developed scientific/research collaboration with more than 30 international institutions. She was the president of the International Conference of the Childhood Obesity (CIOI 2005,2011 and 2017).
